This study examined the impact of the unanticipated death of parent(s) on adolescent orphans in Hoima District, Western Uganda, with the aim of proposing a contextualized chaplaincy intervention. Using a qualitative literature review research design, the study synthesized existing empirical, theological, and pastoral care literature to develop an in-depth understanding of the psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual challenges faced by bereaved adolescents following sudden parental loss. The findings revealed recurrent themes including shock and disbelief, prolonged and complicated grief, emotional withdrawal, academic disruption, and heightened vulnerability due to weakened support systems. The literature further underscored that adolescent grief is a complex, non-linear process influenced by developmental stage, cultural context, and the availability of psychosocial and spiritual support. Common coping strategies identified among adolescents include peer interaction, music, physical activities, and informal support networks, though these are often insufficient in the absence of structured care. The study highlighted significant gaps in coordinated pastoral and chaplaincy responses to adolescent bereavement in the Ugandan context. Consequently, it argues for the integration of holistic chaplaincy interventions that combine spiritual care, grief counseling, psychosocial support, and community-based initiatives. Strengthening chaplaincy engagement within schools, churches, and community settings is essential for fostering resilience, facilitating healthy grieving, and supporting adolescents in reconstructing meaning and hope after the sudden loss of a parent.Downloads
